SOMETHING INDEPENDENT TO RIDE THE RAILS WITH THE MILLENNIAL TRAINS PROJECT

Inaugural Transcontinental Journey Across America to Pass Through Colorado August 10-12.

Denver, CO, August 7, 2013 --  On August 8, 2013 The Millennial Trains Project (MTP) will depart from San Francisco on its inaugural journey from West to East, across America, with stops in seven cities over 10 days. Twenty-four Millennial entrepreneurs crowdfunded their ticket on the transcontinental train journey to advance projects of their own design that benefit, serve and inspire others. As the MTP crosses into Colorado on Saturday, August 10, Something Independent will be hitching a ride from Grand Junction to Denver; connecting with and sharing the stories of the inspiring Millennials and mentors travelling along a scenic, and historic railway.“Colorado has long been a place that has attracted the pioneer, the kind of person inclined to become an entrepreneur,” says Chuck Sullivan Co-Founder of Something Independent. “It’s in the landscape – from the rugged peaks of the Rockies, to the wide-open plains, to Denver’s vibrant urban core. It’s in the people – those pursing their passions, impacting their communities, and inspiring next generations of leaders. For these Millennials to experience Colorado by rail and arrive in Denver by train is an amazing opportunity. Something Independent is honored to be a part of the experience.”The inaugural Millennial Trains Project journey takes place from August 8-17, 2013 with stops in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Denver, Omaha, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. MTP participants will explore innovative solutions for sustainable transportation, poetry in public places, renewable energy technologies, and improving access to higher education, among many others in each locality where the train stops."What pioneering aspirations and initiatives will define our generation? This question is the driving force behind The Millennial Trains Project,” said Patrick Dowd, CEO and founder of The Millennial Trains Project. “Trains have always been vehicles of discovery, connection and opportunity. This August, a group of leading Millennials, will explore what it means to be a pioneer in the digital age by advancing new ideas across diverse communities and landscapes. In Denver, we look forward to connecting with likeminded innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders who exemplify the pioneering mindset that will drive our nation forward. Something Independent is actively and creatively bringing forward the story of doers. That’s the story of the Millennial entrepreneur. We are thrilled to partner with Something Independent on the inaugural Millennial Trains Project journey, and look forward to our trip through Colorado together.”As one of the nation's fastest growing cities for Millennials and start ups, Denver is a highly anticipated stop for the Millennial Trains Project.  With a culture and lifestyle that inspires a pervasive entrepreneurial spirit, Denver serves as the hub of commerce and innovation for the Rocky Mountain West. A true city of the 21st century, Denver's growth is product of a long history of forward thinking community and business leaders. Denver is a community that says "Yes" to challenges and new ideas, a community that values collaboration.Follow Something Independent’s journey across Colorado with the MTP and join the conversation at dev1.zenman.com/sites/si/si/, www.facebook.com/somethingindependent, via Twitter @somethingindpnt and using the hashtag #SIontherailsFollow the Millennial Trains Project across America and learn more about the entrepreneurs and mentors on board by visiting www.millennialtrain.co and join the conversation using the hashtag #NewFrontiers.More on S|ISomething Independent operates at the crossroads of all that Colorado represents – lifestyle, commerce, leadership, and the entrepreneurial drive to explore.  S|I convenes leading innovators and entrepreneurs who are creating their businesses in accordance with the values of lifestyle and hard work, while positively impacting their communities, and inspiring next generations of founders.  S|I develops partnerships and raises awareness through programming and media built around the stories of the western influencers. This is the community of leaders – those operating at the intersection of lifestyle and commerce – that S|I brings together and showcases in promoting the independent spirit and entrepreneurial values of Colorado and Rocky Mountain West.Reporting from the rails on behalf of S|I, Ally Seeley, an east coast native, growing up just outside of our nation’s busy Capitol, Washington, DC, Ally heeded the call of Colorado and the lifestyle and opportunity it presented. After graduating from the University of Denver in 2011 with a Bachelors of Arts in Electronic Media Arts and Design, Ally set out to teach electronic textile classes at Maker Faires across the country and she has recently been tapped by MindSpark to teach middle schoolers in the Denver area the art of “e-textiles”.  Ally is Something Independent’s resident Millennial. She is motivated by those most passionate about their craft and through her work at S|I, Ally helps to share the stories of these innovators and entrepreneurs across Colorado.About The Millennial Trains ProjectThe Millennial Trains Project (MTP) is a non-profit organization that leads crowdfunded transcontinental train journeys to empower diverse groups of Millennials to explore America's new frontiers. Over the course of a ten day train journey, MTP helps participants and virtual audiences to identify, evaluate, and explore new opportunities and challenges in the communities where our trains stop – and advance a project that benefits, serves, and inspires others. The inspiration for MTP comes from a similar train journey, the Jagriti Yatra, that founder Patrick Dowd helped lead as a 2010-11 Fulbright Scholar in India. Follow the Millennial Trains Project across the nation this August on Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook and join the conversation using the hashtag #NewFrontiers.
