Together with community stakeholders, The Wright works to advance prosperity across Colorado communities by deepening our connection to place.

The Wright is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to the economic and cultural vitality of Colorado communities.

Our work is rooted in the common bonds we find in the outdoors. The Wright brings together innovators, place-makers and forward-thinking organizations to awaken ideas, nurture connections and spark new levels of understanding in our efforts to effect cultural change and reshape the future of work for Coloradoans of all walks of life.

Originally launched as Something Independent in 2010, in collaboration with the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, The Wright set out to celebrate outdoor-inspired entrepreneurs across Colorado.

The early focus of the initiative was on building authentic relationships between small business owners and economic development entities, and putting an early spotlight on the state’s emergent outdoor recreation economy. In this work, we came to know more than a gritty group of innovative makers. Rather, we discovered a collective of leaders committed to meaningful work, outdoor stewardship, and sustainable communities.

By tapping into the cultural trends we were seeing in communities across Colorado and the Mountain West, The Wright has had a real impact for emerging entrepreneurs, as well as for civic partners, local and regional economic development entities and community-serving organizations.

Today’s portfolio of Wright programs has evolved from and been informed by the groundwork laid by Something Independent. Notable S|I initiatives from over the years have included:

The Wright Summit & Awards

Economics of Soul

Trade School.
